Suunto has launched the Run 2, which as the name suggests, is the successor to the original Run. While the company has yet to disclose details on its local availability and pricing, the device has received approval from SIRIM, so it will probably arrive on our shores soon.
In the meantime, the official launch has revealed all the details on the Finnish company’s latest running-focused smartwatch. Although its design largely matches that of its predecessor, the new model brings some notable improvements. Like the previous generation, the Run 2 sports a plastic body that measures 11.7mm thick and weighs 35g. Meanwhile, its bezel is composed of stainless steel.
Furthermore, the watch sports a 1.32-inch AMOLED display protected with Gorilla Glass. This panel features a 466 x 466 pixel resolution and boasts a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, which is considerably brighter than the 600 nits offered by its precursor. Beyond that, the device is rated 5 ATM, so it can be used for some water activities like swimming. Diving is out of the question, however.
Among the hardware upgrades are a redesigned 12-channel wrist heart rate sensor and an upgraded GPS module. The former allows for improved tracking during hard intervals, sudden changes in intensity, and long efforts, among other things. Depending on the model, the watch can offer either 4GB or 64GB of built-in storage. As for battery life, the Run 2 offers up to ten days of regular use with training. In GPS mode, it lasts about 24 hours.
Another highlight is the addition of offline maps. Users have the ability to download worldwide maps to the Run 2 for free, allowing for accurate navigation even in areas with low connectivity. Furthermore, the watch can offer real time running insights. For instance, EnergySense compares the runner’s efforts against their energy. Wearers can also access personalised training plans, as well as 32 sports modes.
In the US, the 4GB model retails for US$349 (~RM1,420), while the 64GB variant gets a US$399 (~RM1,624) price tag. Again, local pricing has not been announced yet, but the SIRIM listing does indicate that the watch will be headed our way. Worth noting that although the entry does not mention name, the listed model number matches the Run 2.
What’s more, it may not be the only product Suunto will bring to the Malaysian market. The Race 3 and Race 3S have also been listed on the regulatory database. Neither model has been released in any market yet, though.
