Valve has officially unveiled the pricing for its Steam Frame VR headset. The digital game distributor is offering two SKUs with different memory configurations: 256GB and 1TB.
The Steam Frame with 256GB retails at US$1,059 (~RM4,312), while the 1TB model retails for US$1,299 (~RM5,289). Regardless, the rest of its specs remain uniform across.
What’s In The Box?

On that note, Valve’s also released a specs sheet. As previously confirmed, the Steam Frame is powered by the older Snapdragon 8 Gen3 SoC, has 16GB of Unified LPDDR5X RAM, and is powered by a meagre 21.6Wh built-in battery. Oh, and a microSD card slot is there too.
The output uses two 2,160 x 2,160 LCD screens, one per eye, with a variable refresh rate between 72Hz and 144Hz, but it should be noted that Valve marks the 144Hz mark as “experimental”. Connectivity-wise, the headset supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, inside-out camera tracking, SteamOS 3, while the bundled Steam Controllers come with full 6-DOF tracking. Also, Half-Life: Alyx comes bundled with it.
Extras Will Cost You

Surprisingly, Valve isn’t providing the Steam Frame with its own dedicated power adapter, and says that any adapter with an output of 45W or higher will be sufficient to recharge the headset. In other words, that 45W charger that you got with you Steam Deck? It’ll do the trick.
Should you wish to get a dedicated charging adapter for the headset, though, Valve will sell it to you as an optional extra for US$29 (~RM118), along with other Accessories kits. The Ergonomic Accessories Kit costs US$59 (~RM240), and comes with $59 (~RM240), and comes with $59 (~RM240), and comes with $59 (~RM240), and includes two controller hand straps, a headset top strap, and an extended light blocker. Lastly, there is an Accessory Replacement Kit that retails for US$49 (~RM199) that includes a face gasket, head cushion, and a standard light blocker.
Sadly and just like the Deck, Controller, and Machine, the Steam Frame isn’t available in our region, so even if we wanted to order it, the option just isn’t there. If you are able to order the headset, Valve is taking preorders for it starting today, and will close the list on 17 September. Oh, and users and can choose one of the two models, and the results will be sent out by via email within a day.
Having said all that, it also goes without saying that the Steam Frame will eventually make its way into our country, albeit through the grey market. It also won’t be cheap, with local retailers likely to sell it for higher than its official price tags. Just look at what local game retailer Impulse Gaming did with the Steam Controller and Machine; it is selling the former for more than double its value, while the latter starts at about the same price range.
