The new Xpeng G6 series got its launch for the local market in October of last year, with three available variants. A fourth has been added, which is called the RWD Standard Range, to contrast the existing RWD Long Range Pro model. As the difference in name suggests, it loses out on some driving range in exchange for a lower price point.

More specifically, it costs RM159,948 on-the-road without insurance, which is just about RM20,000 less than the Long Range Pro. Unfortunately, it’s not just the maximum driving range that has been given up to the altar of comparative affordability.

What Sets It Apart From The Existing RWD Long Range Pro

Beyond the aforementioned lower price, the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery here is rated at 68.5 kW. This means that the WLTP range is also down to 480km. To compare, the existing models all share a 80.8 kWh battery, with ranges of 525km for the RWD Long Range Pro, and 510km for the AWD models.

Power output on the Xpeng G6 RWD Standard Range is also down a tad. While torque figures remain unchanged at 440 Nm, the rear electric motor here is rated at 252 PS compared to the Long Range Pro’s 296 PS. This also means a century sprint time of 6.94 seconds. For context, the Long Range Pro has those numbers at 6.7 seconds, and for what it’s worth, they still share a top speed of 202 km/h.

As mentioned, the Xpeng G6 RWD Standard Range gives up a lot more than just performance to be RM20,000 cheaper. Extra features lost include the massaging function for the front seats and the Nappa leather seat upholstery and suede-covered pillars. The alloy wheels have also been shrunk from 20 inches to 18.

Beyond these concessions, you’re effectively getting the same car. There’s still the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 15.6-inch infotainment display, smart access, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and dual 50W wireless charging pads, among others. Also retained are the dual-zone climate control, six-way powered front seats with heating, seven airbags, a digital rear view mirror and a 16-speaker XOpera sound system.

Then there’s the XPilot driver assistance feature set. This includes adaptive cruise control and adaptive turning cruise, lane centring, parking assist, vehicle summon, front and rear collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring as well as  rear cross traffic alert. Though notably, there’s no auto lane change, driving recorder and driving monitoring here.

All that being said, you do have an opportunity to preview the Xpeng G6 RWD Standard Range before the weekend comes to a close. It and the X9 will be at the 1 Utama, LUXE until 18 January.
