The Nissan Serena C28 e-Power hybrid has been spotted on Malaysian roads, hinting at a possible local debut in the near future. The sighting was shared by Facebook user Weng Ng on the paultan.org Automotive/Car Discussion Group.

According to paultan.org, this isn’t the first time the Serena has been seen in Malaysia, as the MPV was previously spotted in 2023 undergoing tests on the winding roads of Genting Highlands. However, no official news of its launch followed then.

Recently, the Serena C28 e-Power made its debut in Thailand at the 46th Bangkok International Motor Show. It gives a glimpse of what to expect if the MPV arrives in the Malaysian market.

In terms of design, it features a bold front fascia highlighted by a large chrome-accented V-motion grille flanked by slim, angular LED headlights. The sculpted bumper with vertical air intakes adds a sporty touch. Meanwhile, the rear design showcases vertically oriented LED taillights that extend from the roofline, complemented by a sculpted rear bumper and subtle roof and side spoilers. Completing the look are stylish 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels.

Inside, the Serena e-Power boasts a modern and spacious cabin featuring a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The seven-seater MPV comes equipped with black leather seats across all three rows, designed with Nissan’s Zero Gravity structure for enhanced comfort. The expansive front windshield and door windows use dual-layer acoustic glass to minimise external noise to keep the cabin quiet and comfortable.

Practicality is a key highlight, with a large storage compartment, under-floor storage, 17 cup holders, USB-C ports in every row, plus a Type-A port in front, and wireless charging support. It also features a three-zone automatic climate control system with a Plasmacluster air purification system that is claimed to reduce PM2.5 dust particles inside the cabin.

Under the hood, the Serena e-Power is equipped with an enhanced version of Nissan’s signature e-Power hybrid system. It pairs a 1.4-litre HR14DDe naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine with a single electric motor that delivers 163 PS and 315 Nm of torque, it is powered by a 1.77 kWh battery and just like in the Nissan Kicks e-Power, there is no direct mechanical connection between the engine and the front wheels. Instead, the petrol engine functions solely as a generator to charge the battery.

Other performance specifications include the e-Pedal Step system, where acceleration and deceleration are controlled with just one pedal. According to the automaker, the single pedal system is also able to help increase energy regeneration by efficiently recharging the battery. The driver can select to activate this feature if needed.

As mentioned above, these are some of the specifications that can be expected from the MPV if it arrives in Malaysia. However, at the time of writing there is no actual indication from the automaker on the Nissan Serana e-Power’s debut in Malaysia.
