Yamaha has taken the stage with six unique models at this year’s Japan Mobility Show (JMS 2025). These include the Motoroid: A Lambda, Tricera, Proto, H2 Buddy Porter concepts which utilises hybrid, electric and hydrogen alternatives.
The first prototype of the Motoroid: A Lambda was showcased in 2017, which could stand and interact autonomously. It has since been refined, and the latest iteration features an adaptive exoskeleton and autonomous decision-making. According to the automaker, the model is able to train in virtual environments and apply its knowledge in the real world.

Meanwhile, Tricera is a three-wheel electric autocycle that visually comes with an open top and an arching centre frame, which, according to Yamaha, is designed to contrast the driver’s space with the mechanical elements. Additionally, it comes with a unique three-wheel steering system (3WS) that is claimed to enhance cornering performance. Adding to the experience, Yamaha’s αlive AD sound control system adjusts the electric motor’s sound to heighten the thrill of driving.
The Proto model is available in three powertrain options: the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), Hybrid (HEV), and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV). The Proto HEV combines an electric motor with an internal combustion engine, allowing riders to seamlessly switch between quiet urban cruising and dynamic performance on open roads. The Proto PHEV takes this further, offering the flexibility to operate in full electric mode or as a hybrid, depending on riding conditions. Meanwhile, the Proto BEV serves as a test platform for Yamaha’s next-generation large-capacity battery and features an advanced sound system that provides riders with audio cues for a more intuitive riding experience.
The H2 Buddy Porter Concept, on the other hand, marks Yamaha’s entry into hydrogen-powered two-wheelers. Developed in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation, it features a newly designed compact, high-pressure hydrogen tank specifically engineered for motorcycles and scooters and certified by the relevant authorities. On a full tank, the H2 Buddy Porter Concept delivers an impressive cruising range of over 100 km.
Alongside these models, Yamaha showcased another ten others at JMS 2025, which include an electric bicycle and a three-wheeled electric wheelchair. Although these models are still in the concept stage, they offer a glimpse into the future of two-wheeler innovation and Yamaha’s vision for advanced mobility.
