Maybank will soon be rolling out an update on the biometric authentication for Secure2u approval on the MAE app. This action is done to further combat fraud and improve the security of users’ online banking experience.

According to the bank’s official statement, the introduction of this additional security feature began yesterday, 29 October, and will continue in stages. Once a user receives the new feature, every Secure2u approval will be paired with the respective user’s biometric authentication (whether facial recognition or fingerprint) to prevent unauthorised transactions.

Maybank Money Lock

The bank will first implement this feature for third-party transfers such as Interbank Fund Transfer (IBFT), Interbank Giro (IBG), and DuitNow transfers, with more services to follow in later stages. It is worth noting that this feature is in addition to Maybank’s other anti-fraud measures, such as one-device access, Malware Shielding, and Money Lock.

In practice, users can conduct transactions as per usual. If biometric authentication is enabled on the device, however, users will be prompted to submit a Face ID or a fingerprint first before the transaction is approved. On the other hand, if biometric authentication is disabled, users need to submit the six-digit PIN that was created when setting up their respective MAE app.

Maybank kill switch cards

Despite this additional safety feature, Maybank advises users to activate the Kill Switch function the moment they suspect someone has unauthorised access to their Maybank2u account. Users can find the feature via the MAE app or Maybank2u web.
