Mazda unveiled the Mazda Vision X-Coupe (‘X’ pronounced as ‘cross’) at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. This prototype model is a crossover coupe that will feature a hybrid system integrating a two-rotor rotary engine, which was last fitted in a Mazda RX-8.

Design-wise, the Vision X-Coupe embodies the ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design language, which gives the car an aggressive-looking front fascia. It features sharp and sleek headlights and a large closed-off grille. The aggressive stance is enhanced with vertical chrome accents that flow elegantly from the edges of the grille area toward the lower bumper. The rear comes with futuristic taillights that curve elegantly around the edges. It also has a subtle integrated diffuser and the company’s name in the middle.

Inside, the cabin is designed in a minimalistic way, blending new and old technology. It comes with a large display combining two screens — one for the infotainment system and another for the passenger. However, for the instrument cluster, the automaker has decided to go with analogue versions. Other than that, the interior and seats appear to be upholstered with premium materials, while maintaining the simplicity of the design.

As mentioned above, the Mazda Vision X-Coupe comes with a hybrid platform, combining the two-rotor rotary engine with a battery. It has a maximum output of 510 PS and an electric-only range of 160 km. Together with the engine, it offers a total range of 800 km. Additionally, it comes with “Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture” technology, allowing the car to reduce emissions.

Alongside the Vision X-Coupe, Mazda also unveiled the Vision X-Compact. This model was designed to deepen the bond between people and cars by combining a human sensory digital model with empathetic AI. Acting as a close companion, the X-Compact can engage in natural conversations and suggest destinations, enhancing the driving experience while helping to expand the driver’s world through intelligent, human-like interaction.
