Proton may have officially unveiled the e.MAS 5 back in May, but it has kept pricing and availability details hidden. Until recently anyway, as the company has reiterated the price range for the EV hatchback. And perhaps more importantly, a specific availability date has also been mentioned.
Via its social media outlets – minus X, notably – the company has gotten YS Khong, Malaysian Rally ace of the 80s, to do the teaser. In the short clip, Khong says that the Proton e.MAS 5 is an EV that “everyone can buy”. This is then followed by its price range of between RM60,000 and RM80,000. This is nothing new though, as the carmaker has already revealed this range when it first opened early-bird bookings.

As mentioned, the more important detail is near the end, where Khong says “10 more days. Wait for it”. The clip then closes with a graphic showing a similar message. Considering the clip was posted yesterday, this implies that the Proton e.MAS 5 will be available on 30 October.
In case you missed the initial launch back in May, the Proton e.MAS 5 is based on the Geely Star Wish. It carries most of the donor model’s design language, especially on the outside. Inside, it gets an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch infotainment display. These are powered by an Automotive Grade Chip and supports both wireless and wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
On the performance side of things, the Proton e.MAS 5 Premium specifically is listed with an 11-in-1 integrated motor that produces 85 kW and 150 Nm of torque. This gives it s 3.9-second century sprint time. Then there’s the battery that’s rated at 40.16 kWh to provide a WLTP-rated range of up to 325 km.
