Zack Nelson, otherwise known as JerryRigEverything (JRE) on YouTube, recently subjected the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold to a series of extreme durability test, as part of his usual teardown of devices. Unfortunately for the foldable (or Zack, maybe?), the foldable folded under pressure, the battery bloating up and going up in a cloud of chemical smoke.
Now, we’re not snide or vindictive, but when you subject a phone to all manners of contortionism and extreme durability testing as JRE does, having a phone, let alone the 10 Pro Fold, blow up in your face seems like a natural conclusion. That said, this even marked the first time that a device had actually exploded on Zack’s channel.

When the fire had died down, JRE’s inspection revealed the battery inside the 10 Pro Fold had burned. For the uninitiated, modern Lithium Ion batteries inside smartphones are installed via layers upon layers of powercells, which is how smartphone manufacturers can keep said devices thin enough for your pockets and bags. In this case, the layers were all individually burned to a crisp.
Before you start spreading misinformation or claiming a manufacturing defect or controversy, the bottom is simple: it is highly unlikely that your unit of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is going to go up in flames. Again, the only reason JRE’s unit even went the way of the Dodo was because he was purposely subjecting it to extreme actions. If, in watching this video, it has made you a little more cautious about the way you treat your device, then good on you. No, seriously.
You’ve already heard these safety tips for the millionth time, but if you’re using a foldable, don’t forcibly bend it far beyond what the hinge is capable of. Also, don’t purposely put heavy stuff down directly on top of your phone.
The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is already available in Malaysia at a starting SRP of RM7,999.
