It appears that the rumours were true about the Tesla Model Y Standard Variant. As per earlier reports, the company has officially pulled the curtains back from the EV but in a surprise move, it is also introducing a Standard variant of the Model 3.
Both models are now officially part of Tesla’s updated line-up in the US. Further, the Long Range variants have been rebranded as the Premium variants, as the Standard variants now serve as the base trims of the lineups.
In terms of design, the Standard Model Y features a refreshed front fascia, sans the light bar, and is equipped with slimmer LED headlights. The standard wheel size has been updated to 18 inches, with 19-inch wheels available as an option. Other notable changes include the addition of manual folding side mirrors.
As for the Standard Model 3, the design updates are minimal. It retains the overall look of the premium variants but, similar to the Model Y Standard, it comes with 18-inch wheels as standard and manual folding side mirrors.
The interior of both models has undergone some changes as well. Firstly, both models only come with the 15.4-inch infotainment system, while the 8-inch rear screens have been removed. The centre console for both models has been changed to a more open design, along with a manually adjustable steering wheel.
Additional features include manually adjusted air vents, heated front seats and textile decor. As for the Model Y, it has a closed glass roof and dual-tone seats, comprising textile and vegan leather. Meanwhile, the Model 3 comes with a panoramic roof, as well as vegan leather with textile inserts.
Performance-wise, both the Standard variants come with a single motor and rear-wheel drive configuration. The Model Y takes 6.8 seconds to complete the century sprint, while the Model 3 is one second quicker, at 5.8 seconds. The models are powered by a 65.9 kWh battery offering 516.5 km of range. The Standard variants support up to 225 kW for charging and only take 15 minutes to replenish up to 272 km for the Model Y, while the Model 3 gets 274 km.
The Standard variant of these models does not come with Autopilot, but it is equipped with the full self-driving package (supervised). Nevertheless, features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and blind spot monitoring are still available as standard specs.

Now, moving on to pricing, the Standard Model Y and Model 3 start from US$39,900 (~RM168,600) and US$36,900 (~RM155,900), respectively. When compared to their Premium counterparts, the price difference is about US$5,000 (~RM21,000) for the Model Y and US$5,500 (~RM23,200) for the Model 3.
