Shell Malaysia managing director Shairan Huzani Husain, via his “Pak Cik Shell” account on Instagram, has shared a demo showing how MyKad verification for BUDI95 subsidy purchases would work directly at the fuel pump. The video, however, was not recorded at an actual station but instead inside his office due to the system yet to be activated at stations.
In the clip, Shairan begins by tapping his Visa debit card on the touch reader to make a PayWave payment, and then inserts his MyKad into a separate slot for verification. Within seconds, the process appears complete and he can proceed to pump fuel.
This indicates that Shell stations will be outfitted with MyKad readers at the pump, removing the need for drivers to queue at the cashier counter. Based on his explanation, MyKad verification at the counter will only be necessary for cash transactions, while card or PayWave payments can be completed entirely at the pump. For those who wish to collect Bonuslink points, Shairan explained in the comments section that this comes as a third step, after the MyKad verification.
The video also highlights a small but practical tip, as it opens with Shairan cleaning the chip on his MyKad with an eraser, likely to avoid verification errors that can occur with dirty or worn-out chips. On that note, do keep in mind that the Ministry of Home Affairs recently announced that Malaysians can replace damaged MyKad chips for free at National Registration Department branches nationwide from 23 September to 7 October 2025.

To recap, under BUDI95, the price of RON95 petrol will be set at RM1.99 per litre starting 30 September. The subsidy is capped at 300 litres per month for each eligible driver with a valid MyKad and driving licence, while registered e-hailing drivers will enjoy an unlimited quota. Both physical MyKad verification and supported payment apps can be used at the pump. Without the subsidy, the standard retail price of RON95 will be RM2.60 per litre.
