Acer became the first laptop brand to help Intel break its cover with its next generation laptop processor, Panther Lake, and that the Swift 16 AI will be one of the first laptops to ship out with said chip.
As a quick primer, Panther Lake is set to be Intel’s first CPU architecture to be built around the new 18A process node, or 1.8nm die lithography. Made in part by TSMC, the CPU will feature new Cougar Cove P-Cores and Darkmont E-Cores and LP E-Cores. Oh, and it’ll also be the first to launch with the new Xe3 GPU cores.
Again, the Swift 16 AI announced on stage will serve as the vehicle for the new Panther Lake CPU. While not announced in detail, Acer gave a quick breakdown of what else we can expect: it features a 16-inch OLED panel, and customers will have a resolution choice of up to 3K, and it’ll have a large haptic touchpad.
Acer didn’t share a whole lot on the rest of the internals, but did promise that the Swift 16 AI will weigh less than 1kg. And while it’s not the first time the brand has created laptops that can boast such feather-weight, it is technically the first time that it is creating a 16-incher in the weight category.
As for when we can expect the Swift 16 AI, Acer says that the laptop will be rolling out “really soon”, but gave no specifics, not even the price.
