Huawei has launched two tablets in its home market, with one of them looking to be the obligatory annual refresh. The tablets in question are MatePad Air 12 and the MatePad 11.5 S. In a sense, the Huawei MatePad Air 12 is also a refresh, but the previous model didn’t get a number attached to it.
This is because it shares the same battery, charging speed, weight and thinness as the previous model. Which, for context, are 10,100 mAh, 66W, 555g and 5.9mm respectively. Similarly, the screen here is a familiar 12-inch 2,800 × 1,840 LCD with 144Hz refresh rate. Now though, it gets support for the company’s M Pencil Pro. While we’re talking about media, the tablet gets six speakers built-in around it.

Where the previous model came with choices of 8GB or 12GB of RAM, the only option with the new Huawei MatePaid Air 12 is only 12GB. Storage remains a choice between 256GB and 512GB. Its cameras is where the differences are greater, as the new model sports a 50MP main unit, but a familiar 8MP front-facing shooter. On the software side of things, it runs HarmonyOS 5.
Moving on to the Huawei MatePad 11.5 S, beyond downsizing the screen to 11.5 inches, it has the same 2,800 x 1,840 144Hz LCD display, with stylus support. Powering the device is a 8,800 mAh battery with 40W charging. For memory and storage configs, you get 8GB or 12GB for the former, and 256GB or 512GB for the latter. Imaging is handled by an 13MP rear and 8MP front cameras. Similar to the MatePad Air 12, it runs HarmonyOS 5.

In its home market, the Huawei MatePad Air 12 has a starting price of CNY2,999 (~RM1,764), while the MatePad 11.5 S starts from CNY2,499 (~RM1,470). No word on local availability yet, but the company is launching the Papermatte Edition of the latter locally tomorrow.
