NVIDIA is planning to aggressively reprice its GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, according to a post posted on Boardchannels. The reason behind the decision is oversupply.
Supposedly, the company has been experiencing poor sales with the RTX 50 Series, which has led to its situation. Understandable, considering that when the series launched, the cheapest card then was the RTX 5070 at US$549 (~RM2,327), while the RTX 5090 continues to sell well above its US$1,999 (~RM8,465) starting MSRP, especially in Malaysia.
“Urgent attention: Graphics card manufacturers across various brands may soon begin adjusting prices. Some have already begun preemptively adjusting the cost of the RTX50 series by the end of the month, aiming to help distributors achieve their IN targets in the final days of July.
This is primarily due to a recent sharp drop in terminal sales, which has led to continued declines in wholesale and retail prices, significantly increasing inventory pressure and creating a reality of oversupply. Industry experts generally expect graphics card manufacturers to continue lowering their cost prices in August to maintain market liquidity and stabilize sales.
Distributors nationwide are advised to evaluate their inventory and pricing strategies and prepare for a coordinated response.” – ChannelGate via Chiphell.
While a reduction in the price of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 Series is welcome, it is very unlikely that distributors, retailers, and resellers in Malaysia will willingly follow the new price tags set by NVIDIA. The most common excuse we’ve heard from some shops is that they need to recoup the cost when they initially stocked them.
In any case, this is still merely a rumour, and at the time of writing, NVIDIA hasn’t officially confirmed it. So, as we always tell you to, take this story with usual consumption of sodium.
