In light of its successful sale of 3.5 million Switch 2 units in just four days after launch, Nintendo is clearly aware that people aren’t happy with its new game key cards for the console. Sensing some sort of disatisfaction, the world’s most litigious gaming company posted a questionnaire in Japan, asking for its fanbase’s “honest feedback” about it and boy, the folks on Reddit aren’t holding back.
As a quick primer, the Switch 2 game key cards aren’t like the cartridges of the original Switch. Rather than just storing the game’s data inside it, they only contain the permission, after which it downloads the game.

It is important to note that the questionnaire is in Japanese but thanks to a handful of Redditors, we’ve got rough translations of Nintendo’s queries. They’re about as basic as you’d get for control questions for the game key cards – how do they feel about them, are they satisfied with them, if they had a choice between digital and physical, which would they purchase? Those sorts of questions.
As expected, many non-Japanese Redditors who absolutely abhor the Switch 2 game key cards and are not holding back with lambasting Nintendo’s decision, in all the brightly coloured profanities. “Just keep telling them how big bu—–t key cards are,” says one Redditor. “Let’s f—–ing rain dissatisfaction on them,” says another, while another makes their feelings simple “Dear Nintendo, F—k Game Key Cards

It’s easy to see how said methods of authentication can frustrate people. The trend of physical game boxes sometimes containing the digital code for the game and not the actual game disk can be mildly or painfully infuriating, especially if you’re a collector. With the Switch 2 game key cards and its confirm-then-download before you can play method, it’s just highly unnecessary.
