Synology has announced yet another new DiskStation network-attached storage (NAS), the DS725+. The DiskStation is a 2-bay storage option, designed for home, small, and edge businesses.
Like all its latest DiskStations, the DS725+ features updated hardware and security features. Despite being a 2-bay unit, it supports capacities of up to 40TB independently, and up to 140TB if you throw in an expansion units such as, say, the DX525.

Other updated specs include two M.2 NVMe SSD slots at the bottom of the DS725+, which is used primarily for caching. In addition, there’s also a new 2.5GbE LAN port for faster networking. It is important to note that the new DiskStation will require that consumers use Synology-certified storage drives, otherwise, they may not gain access to certain features.
To that end, Synology is selling hard drives made by Toshiba and Seagate, rebadged with its own brand, but the downside is that they don’t come cheap.

Moving along, the DS725+ will provide users with Synology-centric software features, including NAS-to-NAS synchronisation, cloud-powered multi-site synching, as well as the ability to sync the DiskStation to public cloud providers. Of course, if you don’t want the latter, you could simply just back up all your data to storage using Synology Drive and the brand’s other apps.
The Synology DS725+ is already available but at the time of writing, the company did not provide local pricing.
