Earlier in the month, Microsoft cut about 9,000 positions within its company, including some folks from the Xbox division. So it is immensely ironic that one department, specifically Xbox Graphics, is hiring again. And the attempt is being done in the most callous way imaginable.
The job ad is posted by principal development lead of Xbox Graphics, Mike Matsel, but it comes with a painfully obvious AI-generated image. All you really need to notice is that the monitor has its screen on back to front. There are plenty of other issues that those with better eyes (or greater pedantry) will point out, but it’s really unnecessary at this point.

From the post, the Xbox Graphics department, is looking for people with device drivers, GPU performance, or related validation or engineering system experience. But clearly, the department needs a graphic designer more pressingly than any other role or expertise. Or, just additional oversight to ensure people don’t blindly trust the work of AI.
This may be the second instance since the layoffs of someone from Xbox toeing the Microsoft line and hard selling AI. But unlike the first – which asked those affected by the layoffs to use LLM AIs for emotional support – this post has not yet been taken off LinkedIn. At least, at the time of writing anyway.
