Mercedes-Benz Malaysia today launched the G580, powered by ‘EQ Technology’. This fully electric G class model comes in two variants – the basic model and the Edition One – with a price tag of RM958,888 and RM998,888 respectively.
For its price, the G-Wagon offers a solid mix of classic design and modern updates. It retains its iconic angular silhouette, round headlights, wing-mounted indicators, and distinctive door handles. New additions include a sleek black-panel radiator grille, tinted lighting units, an animated LED light band with chrome surround, and a rectangular storage box mounted on the rear door. At the back, C-shaped tail lights sit just above the bumper.
Inside, the all-electric G-Class features the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system with dual 12.3-inch displays—one for infotainment, the other for the digital instrument cluster. A new off-road cockpit displays and manages the vehicle’s off-road functions, while the familiar G-Class control layout is preserved.
The SUPERIOR Line Interior adds luxury with Nappa leather upholstery, diamond-pattern stitching, and exclusive trim. The Active Multicontour Seat Plus package brings massage and performance seat functions. AMG carbon-fibre trim and a multi-function nappa leather steering wheel with touch panels add a sporty touch.
Tech features include ambient lighting, a Burmester 3D surround sound system, and the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System. A new feature called the “G-Roar” simulates the sound of a V8 engine to preserve the G-Class character. Customers can also personalize their SUV through the MANUFAKTUR program, with over two million configuration options, according to Mercedes-Benz.
The Mercedes-Benz G580 is powered by four individual electric motors, one at each wheel. Together, the SUV produces 432kW (587PS) and 1,164 Nm of torque. It completes the century sprint in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 180km/h
All of this juice ia managed through dual-joint shafts that maintain consistent camber during suspension movement. Each motor also has its own two-speed transmission, providing both high and low-range gearing for true 4×4 performance.
The motors draw energy from a 116 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a WLTP range of up to 473 km. It’s mounted within the ladder frame to lower the center of gravity and improve rigidity, and is housed in a torsion-resistant casing to protect against water and dirt.

Charging support includes 200 kW DC fast charging, achieving 10–80% in just 32 minutes. For slower charging, 11 kW AC is also supported, taking around 11.77 hours to charge from 10–100%. Included in the G580 are the three charging programmes – Standard, Work, Home – where users can set the departure time, climate control and charging level.
As with previous G-Wagons, the G580 maintains serious off-road capabilities. It offers 250 mm of ground clearance, 32° approach and 30.7° departure angles, and a 20.3° breakover angle (slightly lower than the standard G-Class). Its water fording depth is an impressive 850 mm.
A standout feature is the G-Turn, which allows the vehicle to spin 720 degrees —useful for navigating tight off-road conditions. The G580 also includes five driving modes via DYNAMIC SELECT: Individual, Sport, Comfort, Trail, and Rock. These adjust steering, suspension, and throttle response for different terrains. For more demanding trails, a low-range gear reduction enhances the Trail and Rock modes further.
As mentioned above the car comes with a stsrting price of RM958,888. This comes with with a 4 years standard warranty, 8 years battery warranty and a choice of a wall box or a 6,500 of charging credit.
