Starting today (13 June) until 15 June 2025, Mercedes-Benz is publicly previewing its upcoming G580 model, powered by ‘EQS Technology’, during the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2025 at the TRX Exchange mall. The first ever fully electric G-Class is expected to debut in Malaysia at the end of this month.
However, the wagon that is displayed at the Fashion Week is fully camouflaged with a pink warp, hence not much of the car is visible expect for outline of the body and the Mercedes star. Nevertheless, since the G-Wagon has already made its international debut in Auto China last year, here are the specs that we can expect for the Malaysian market.
As for the design, the G580 does have some similarities with its engine powered siblings. However, there are features that marks its electrification starting from the illuminated specific grille and covered with think slits of black panels. Additionally, the iconic round headlights of the G-Wagon is also given the same treatment.
Unfortunately, the interior of the display model is still off limits, so we were unable to see what lies inside. Using the Chinese launch as reference, the Inside of the G580 is expected to be identical to a regular G-Wagon, featuring a Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment with dual 12.3-inch display for both infotainment system and instrument cluster. Even the control layout is said to be the same.
The Mercedes-Benz G580 is powered by four electric motors, each mounted at a wheel and produces 147PS individually. Together it gives an output of 587PS and 1,164Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the wheels through dual-joint shafts, which help maintain consistent camber during suspension compression. Additionally, each motor is paired with its own two-speed transmission, providing both low and high-range gearing for 4×4 capability.
The four electric motors are powered by a 116 kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering a WLTP range of up to 473 km. This two-tier battery consists of 216 cells arranged in twelve modules, distributed across three cooling levels. It is integrated into the ladder frame to lower the center of gravity and enhance structural rigidity. To protect against water and dirt intrusion, the battery is enclosed in a torsion-resistant casing.

The battery supports DC fast charging at up to 200 kW, enabling a 10–80% charge in just 32 minutes. For slower charging, it also supports 11 kW AC charging, reaching 10–100% in approximately 11.77 hours.
The G-Wagon has long been a favourite among off-road enthusiasts for its rugged capability, and the all-electric G580 proudly continues that legacy. It offers a ground clearance of 250 mm, with approach and departure angles of 32° and 30.7°, respectively. However, its breakover angle is slightly reduced at 20.3°, compared to 26° in the standard G-Wagon.
One of its standout features is a maximum water fording depth of 850 mm—150 mm more than models equipped with conventional powertrains. Another innovative addition is the G-Turn, a tank-turn function enabled by its four independently driven wheels, allowing for rapid direction changes—especially useful when navigating tight trails or dense jungle paths.
The G580 also comes equipped with five driving modes via the DYNAMIC SELECT system: Individual, Sport, Comfort, Trail, and Rock. Each mode fine-tunes steering, suspension damping, and throttle response to match different terrains and driving styles. For serious off-roading, a low-range gear reduction can be activated, unlocking the full potential of the Trail and Rock modes for enhanced traction and control.

As mentioned earlier, the Mercedes-Benz G580 Electric is expected to arrive in Malaysia by the end of this month. However, the automaker has yet to reveal its official pricing but according to Paultan.org it could be priced below the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV which costs RM1.1 million.
