Telegram has announced an upcoming partnership with xAI, the AI company owned by Elon Musk, to have a wider integration of the chatbot Grok. According to the messaging app’s CEO Pavel Durov, the deal will see the company receiving US$300 million (~RM1.27 billion) from xAI through cash and equity, as well as half of the revenue from subscriptions sold through the platform.
Notably, Musk replied to the post saying that no deal has been signed, to which Durov confirmed that while the deal is agreed to in principle, formalities are pending. If the partnership actually does get penned and inked, Grok will likely be distributed for free this summer to all of Telegram’s users, given that Durov mentioned ” billion+ users”.
The Musk-owned chatbot has actually been directly available through Telegram since March, but currently, it is only available to Premium subscribers. Premium users can use Grok for text, image creation, and coding, but more advanced features such as Think or DeepSearch are limited to its dedicated app or the X platform.
Because the details are still being ironed out, it is unknown if the wider distribution of Grok on Telegram will include its advanced features. It will also be interesting to see if the chatbot subscriptions will be priced differently on the messaging app.
