Apple is reportedly planning on introducing a significant new element to the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max with an under-display Face ID. This is according to a report by The Information, which claims that the tech giant could introduce the technology in the iPhone for the first time along with a new layout.
The under-display design will allegedly involve the relocation of the front sensors from the centre to a small punch-hole cutout in the upper-left corner of the phone. The Face ID components will be hidden under the display while the selfie shooter will apparently still be visible, so it might not be a completely immersive under-display setup.

With the new layout, it would mean the elimination of the pill-shaped cutout, so it is uncertain if Apple will abandon the Dynamic Island feature or adapt it. Aside from the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series, the company has also been rumoured to be working on implementing the under-display sensors into its book-style foldable.
Within the same report, Apple is also said to be splitting the iPhone launch into two yearly events next year. This will apparently start with the iPhone 18e and 18 Air in the spring of 2026, while the rest of the lineup could make the usual debut in September.
