We’re halfway through the week, and in the world of gaming, some things have happened but not in such a major fashion that it would make waves. That being said, their occurrence is still important enough to warrant a report and as such, here’s a quick list of them.

Electronic Arts (EA) is laying off hundreds of workers and has also cancelled an upcoming Titanfall game. The game was reportedly being developed by Respawn Entertainment, the same company that worked on the original two Titanfall games, as well as the Star Wars Jedi series.

According to Bloomberg, EA eliminated between 300 and 400 positions, with 100 of those positions being from within Respawn. Regarding the cancelled Titanfall project, the game was supposedly an extraction shooter set within the same universe. The sad thing about it is that the game was nowhere near to being released, meaning that the company shut it down very early in its development.

Borderlands 4 Release Gets Moved Up To 12 September

Yes, to our very genuine surprise, Gearbox Software, the creator and developer the insanely popular looter-shooter IP, Borderlands, announced that Borderlands 4 will now be available on 12 September. It’s a very welcome bit of good news from the developer, considering the trend of studios pushing back the launch date of their own IPs further, mainly due to issues in their development or because they wish to polish them even further.

The announcement was made by Gearbox co-founder and CEO Randy Pitchford, with the message “the team has been working very hard. Everything’s going great, actually. In fact, everything’s going kind of the best case scenario. The game is awesome, the team is cooking.”

Adding on to that, we’ll also probably be given a first look at Borderlands 4’s gameplay during Sony’s State of Play live stream, which is happening tomorrow.

Russia Tries To Seize Assets From World Of Tanks Studio

As for gaming on the eastern side of Europe, Wargaming, the studio responsible for developing and maintaining World of Tanks, recentlt came under scrutiny of the Russian government. Reportedly, the country’s Prosecutor General is accusing the studios of being Ukrainian sympathisers, as well as engaging in “extremist” activities.

For context, Wargaming says “it made a strategic exit from the Russian and Belarusian markets three years ago. The company disposed of its business in Russia and Belarus to the local management at zero cost and on a debt-free, cash-free basis, with no consideration to take it back. Wargaming doesn’t have any assets or business interests in Russia and Belarus.”

In 2023, the company ran a campaign to raise funds for medical aid in Ukraine back in 2023, a year after Russia’s unprompted invasion of its neighbour. Of course, the Russian government didn’t take too kindly to this but because Wargaming wasn’t technically operating on Russian soil anymore, it turned its attention to Lesta Games, another studio that was formerly own by the game maker. Why Lesta Games was targetted, however, is still unclear even to the entity itself.
