As part of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary last December, Sony updated the PS5 to include classic boot screens and themes from previous generations of the console. While the aesthetic options were initially planned to be temporary, the positive fan response pushed the company to work on bringing the themes back. And as promised, the UI customisation options are making their return in a new update, which is rolling out globally in phases starting today.
All four themes are coming back to the PS5 permanently, and can be accessed in the appearance section of the settings menu. However, the start-up audio chimes for each generation are not returning, according to Engadget.
The update also introduces a new audio focus feature which provides presets to amplify soft sounds for better clarity and immersion when the user is wearing headphones or headsets. Players have the option to boost voices, low pitch sounds, high pitch sounds, or quiet sounds. The amplification levels can also be adjusted to be weak, medium, or strong.
This feature can be accessed through the sound settings as well as the control center, allowing users to adjust the settings while playing. Audio focus is available when using headphones connected via USB or analog jack, but is not supported for HDMI connections through TV, AV receivers or soundbars.
