U Mobile today has announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing with EdgePoint to support the implementation of In-Building Coverage (IBC) infrastructure across Malaysia for its upcoming second 5G network rollout. Under the agreement, the latter will become one of the telco’s preferred partners for 5G IBC deployment, focusing on enhancing indoor connectivity in key locations.
Both companies will work together to tailor 5G IBC solutions for different sites, aiming to boost network performance and improve user experience. The collaboration is intended to ensure a cost-effective and rapid rollout, supporting U Mobile’s goal of expanding high-quality, ultra-fast 5G services nationwide.

The partnership will also explore innovations in 5G IBC solutions, targeting faster data speeds, lower latency, and integration with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, smart cities and autonomous systems. U Mobile and EdgePoint will jointly identify opportunities for future connectivity enhancements and expansion.
“As Malaysia’s next gen 5G network provider, we are committed to delivering high-quality, reliable and ultra-fast 5G services to consumers and businesses, be it indoor or outdoor, especially in high-traffic areas and commercial centres, so that all Malaysians may thrive in a digital economy,” said U Mobile chief technology officer Woon Ooi Yuen. “Our partnership with EdgePoint also underscores our commitment to accelerate 5G adoption and innovation, by ensuring reliable connectivity that will support AI-driven automation, IoT-enabled buildings and more.”

Meanwhile, EdgePoint Towers CEO Muniff Kamaruddin states that the collaboration with U Mobile is the next natural step in its ongoing fruitful partnership. “We are excited to continue strengthening our partnership with U Mobile and ensure seamless 5G connectivity not only throughout Peninsular Malaysia but also in East Malaysia,” he said. “By leveraging our cutting-edge In-Building Coverage (IBC) solutions, we are committed to enhancing indoor connectivity, addressing the growing demand for high-quality, reliable networks in buildings.”
