AI chatbots getting integrated into internet messaging apps are not particularly new, with ChatGPT being available within WhatsApp, and to say nothing of Meta’s own AI chatbot. Another collaboration of this kind has been announced, which is between Grok and Telegram. In case you missed it, the former belongs to xAI, which in turn was founded by Elon Musk.
The announcement, if you can call it that, comes from the Grok official account on X, previously Twitter, which only says “”grok is now available directly on telegram”. More details were provided in replies to comments instead, revealing a lot of caveats to this team-up.
grok now available directly on @telegram

First, and probably most crucially, only Telegram Premium users get access to the chatbot “for free”. You can see this for yourself if you search for “GrokAI” on the messaging app, though it leads to an unrelated account on X itself. Speaking of which, the AI chatbot’s more advanced features are still locked to its dedicated app, or on the social media platform.
For free users looking to give it a try, there’s a chance that this will eventually be opened up to the general user base. For context, Grok was previously also only for X Premium users, before the restriction was removed, even if only for a limited time.
