Intel recently made its second generation XeSS2 supersampling SDK available to the masses and video game developers. As of today, game developers can download it from the online repository, GitHub.
In addition to XeSS2 being posted on GitHub, Intel also published the white paper for the upscaling technology on its website, as an extra added measure for games developers that wish to understand it better.
As a quick recap, XeSS2 was introduced in December last year, alongside the launch of Intel’s second generation ARC Battlemage GPU lineup. In essence, the upscaling technology comprises three elements: the Super Resolution part or XeSS-SR; the Frame Generation element, also known as XeSS-FG; and XeSS Low Latency.
These elements make up what is basically Intel’s answer to the upscaling technology of its rivals, NVIDIA and AMD. Much like the red team, however, XeSS2 appears to be going the open source route. That is a much better route, especially since the one thing the blue chipmaker needs is a wider adoption of the technology, which it is clearly lacking at the moment.
