Huawei chairman Richard Yu has revealed via Weibo that the company plans to unveil a new smartphone by next week, promising that it will be an “unexpected product” launching. While the product wasn’t named, it is believed that the device will be the brand’s new Pocket 3 compact foldable.
Yu also hinted that the upcoming product will be the first to launch with HarmonyOS NEXT out of the box. For the uninitiated, Huawei’s new first-party platform is based on a custom unified proprietary system built on OpenHarmony, offering a refreshed UI, customisation options, faster animation, system-level AI features based on the Pangu LLM, and more.

Details of the Huawei Pocket 3 are still not officially known, but tipster Digital Chat Station is claiming that it will have a 6.28-inch inner folding screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio, while the cover display is said to be 3.48-inches. Additionally, it is rumoured to come with a 50MP primary camera, a finger-print scanner and power button combo, as well as water and dust resistance.

Given that the Pocket 2 remains exclusive to China, this does beg the question on whether the alleged successor will see an international release. However, with the recent debut of the Huawei Mate XT in Malaysia, chances of the Pocket 3 launching globally seems possible.
