Kummute, previously known as Kumpool, has quietly launched its own e-hailing service called Kumride. There was no announcement from the company but according to one Reddit post, it was actually introduced a couple of months back without much fanfare, shortly after it rebranded.
If you’re not familiar with the platform, it offers Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) services where you can hail a van within select areas for a minimal fee, but you are limited to travelling between its designated locations. This is also the case with its e-hailing service, where you can only choose select pickup and drop-off locations for distances from 3km to 7km.
Currently, Kumride operates in 10 locations, namely Petaling Jaya, Bandar Sunway, Central SUneay, KLGCC Resort, Cyberjaya, UTM & Taman Universiti, Seri Austin & Taman Daya, Food Bayana, and Bayan Lepas. Each area has its own operating hours for the service, so you are advised to check on its app before planning your commute.
Cost-wise, this is possibly the cheapest e-hailing services currently available in Malaysia, if you’re willing to be limited to the designated points. Rides start from just RM1 and while there is no fare cap, the most expensive trip we could find so far only costs RM9.20.
Interestingly, while this uses smaller vehicles like sedans and MPVs, you can still book for up to 10 passengers just like with Kumpool. Unfortunately, you can only pay either by cash or through its in-app wallet, which requires a minimum top-up of RM10.
Kummute is the third new player in Malaysia’s e-hailing space this year. Just last week, Bolt suddenly launched its service here while instant courier company Lalamove followed shortly after with Lalamove Ride.
