ViewQwest Announces 10Gbps Internet Connectivity In Malaysia

Though it's not for everyone, to say the least.

Chances are, you’ve heard of ViewQwest before, the Singaporean telco that entered the Malaysian market back in 2017, though it is available in a very limited number of areas. Now, the ISP has announced its 10Gbps internet connectivity service, which it claims is first in Malaysia, at least for consumers.

As is usually the case when an ISP announces new top speeds for their service, the launch event involves a couple of speed tests, including downloading Sid Meier’s Civilization VI on Steam. And while the tests don’t quite show the promised 10Gbps, it’s pretty close, with a peak download speed of 9.5Gbps.

While this is certainly impressive, and ViewQwest says that this is available for both businesses and consumers, it’s certainly not for everyone. To start, you can’t just sign up for the service via the company’s website. At the time of writing, it is not listed as an available option either.

According to a company rep, those interested will have to call ViewQwest to request a site survey, to start. This is to help determine whether the ISP has coverage in your area, to begin with, and if it does, if it support the advertised 10Gbps. And finally, should it all be smooth sailing from here, it has a starting monthly subscription price of RM1,800. And that’s not counting any one-time fees incurred to connect your home to the infrastructure that provides said speed.

At any rate, this is the part where I usually say visit the ViewQwest website to find out more, but considering the sign-up process for the 10Gbps line, it doesn’t quite apply. Instead, here’s the link to the company’s contact page.
