[UPDATE: 31 January 2024 – 12:30pm] TM has reached out to us clarifying that its Unifi broadband service does not use nor supply Aminia routers. In turn, we’ve asked the company for further details regarding its partnership with the local comms and network solutions provider, and will share more information here once we’ve received a reply.

R00TK1T ISC Cyber Team, via its Telegram channel, claims to have successfully breached the backend systems of telecommunications and network solutions provider Aminia. As you may recall, the hacker group threatened to attack the country’s digital infrastructure earlier this week, noting the local government and institutions as potential targets.

In its Telegram channel, R00TK1T included a link to the web server login page for Aminia, which has been taken offline at the time of writing. Also included in the same post are screenshots of what appears to be the company’s backend system, serving as proof of the group’s successful attack.

“To the employees of Aminia, tremble in fear as we expose your vulnerabilities and weaknesses,” R00TK1T wrote on Telegram. “Your secrets are no longer safe, for we shall dig deep into the darkest corners of your digital existence.”

Based on information gathered from its LinkedIn page and corporate website, Aminia offers a wide range of services including GPON, FiberLan, Carrier Wi-Fi, application solutions, Cloud Platforms, CCTV, advanced security solutions, and engineering. It also develops in-house management and Internet of Things (IOT) technologies for palm oil plantation acquisition and management, as well as supply network routers for fibre broadband. The company’s website lists Telekom Malaysia (TM) and Maxis among its main partners.

Aminia, as well as local authorities, have yet to officially release a statement regarding R00TK1T’s system breach. On that note, the hacker group adds that “the chaos has just begun”, indicating that more attacks could potentially happen in the near future.
