Flash storage brand Lexar has announced new microSD card lineup, called the Professional GOLD microSDXC UHS-II cards. These cards boasts higher read and write speeds than the average microSD card. The high speed seems to come at a capacity cost though, but we’ll get there in a bit.
The aforementioned high speed comes in the form of up to 280MB/s for read speeds, and up to 180MB/s for write speeds. These Professional GOLD microSDXC UHS-II cards also come with a V60 rating, which, to be fair, guarantees speeds that are just slightly under what the brand says they are capable off.
Either way, Lexar says these would let them “capture high-quality images and extended lengths of Full HD, 4K and 5.3K video without dropping frames”. The brand also explicitly mentions the Professional GOLD microSDXC UHS-II cards’ compatibility with action cameras, drones and gaming devices.
Getting to the capacity cost mentioned earlier, Lexar is only offering a choice of two storage capacities for this rollout of the Professional GOLD microSDXC UHS-II series. These are 128GB and 256GB, and it’s worth mentioning that the former also has a lower maximum write speed at 100MB/s. The brand also says that you can get these cards from YL Camera stores, and according to a store representative, they are priced at RM700 and RM1,300, respectively.
