If you are among those who have started using Microsoft Edge as their primary browser, you may have experienced some issues while using it to browse Twitter, following its sudden rebranding to X. If you did, then the silver lining to your predicament is that you’re not alone, and that the issue may have been resolved since.
The issue in question is the Microsoft Edge browser triggering a security warning when you try to access X, formerly Twitter. The sudden change triggered a security feature dubbed “Progressive Web App Icon change”, which is designed to alert users to potential scams tied to such changes in a web app’s icon or name. That being said, this is not something that’s exclusive to the Microsoft browser. Instead, it is a feature of Chromium-based browsers, including Google’s Chrome.
Among the first to bring up the issue was a user user of the platform who goes by Florian, with a screenshot of the warning message being shared over the weekend. The warning did not appear when we attempted to recreate it, on both Edge and Chrome. Given the amount of time in between, it’s possible that the issue has already been resolved.

But either way, this is another example of issues that arose following the sudden name change from Twitter to what it is now. The platform was also banned in Indonesia over the X.com URL. The Independent reported that the domain was previously used by sites that did not adhere to the country’s laws against “negative” content.
