Along with the announcement of this month’s Game Catalog titles for PlayStation (PS) Plus subscribers, Sony has revealed that it is also currently testing a new cloud streaming feature for supported PS5 titles as part of the service. This lets you immediately jump into these games without needing to download them first onto your console, especially those offered on Game Catalog. However, you’ll need to be a PS Plus Premium member to enjoy this when it eventually launches.

Cloud streaming isn’t entirely new for Sony’s service, as Premium tier subscribers are already offered with the ability to play PS3, PS4 and classic titles directly from the cloud. This upcoming update, on the other hand, marks the first time for the company to allow them to play PlayStation 5 games via streaming. According to the company, not only will this apply to titles offered through Game Catalog, but to supported player-owned PS5 games as well.

For those conscious about storage space conservation will definitely find this feature handy, especially considering the large install sizes for digital games at this current age. What’s more, it also provides subscribers with immediate access to all Game Catalog and Game Trials titles, which eliminates long download times. Of course, as with most cloud streaming services, a speedy internet connection is preferred if you wish to fully enjoy its offerings.

“We think it’s important for Premium members to be able to enjoy as many games as possible via cloud streaming,” Sony wrote in its official PlayStation Blog. “We’re in the early stages right now, and we can’t wait to share more details when we’re ready, including a launch time frame.”

It is without a doubt that this upcoming addition is very convenient, but it is very likely that it won’t be available in our region. Unlike countries such as the US, our version of PlayStation Plus differs in terms of service offerings. For one thing, we instead have a Deluxe tier in place of Premium, which provides almost every benefit that the latter has, with the exception of the cloud streaming feature for PS3, PS4 and classic games. Unless Sony Malaysia changes this in the near future, right now it’s safe to speculate that we won’t be getting the ability to stream PS5 games either by the time the update eventually rolls out.

In any case, below is the list of games that will be joining the Game Catalog for PS Plus Deluxe and Extra members next week on 20 June 2023:

  • Far Cry 6 (PS4/PS5)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge (PS4/PS5)
  • Rogue Legacy 2 (PS4/PS5)
  • Inscryption (PS4/PS5)
  • Soulstice (PS5)
  • Tacoma (PS4)
  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (PS4)
  • Killing Floor 2 (PS4)
  • WWE2K23 (Game Trial, PS4)
