Gentari has signed a roaming deal with EV Connection and Yinson GreenTech which are two of the biggest charge point operators (CPO) in Malaysia. The deal which was done through its subsidiary Gentari Green Mobility will see the integration of electric vehicle chargers within Gentari, JomCharge, and chargEV network.

EV Connection is one of Gentari’s closest partners as the company has been working with the Petronas subsidiary to deploy its EV chargers since day one. Hence, they already have existing cross-access cooperation going on for a while as all Gentari chargers can be utilised through the JomCharge app in addition to the Setel app.

Meanwhile, Yinson has also developed a mobile app that users can use to activate chargEV chargers although some of the older AC chargers require a physical card which is provided to users who signed up for the CPO’s RM240 annual subscription plan. The plan not only gives free access to those AC chargers but also discounted rates for DC fast chargers.

This landmark deal will allow EV users to locate and access more than 550 EV chargers throughout Malaysia regardless of the app that they prefer. On an individual basis, Gentari currently operates more than 150 chargers while JomCharge and chargEV have around 100 and 300 chargers under their wings, respectively.

While Gentari did not provide in-depth details regarding the integration process, it is expected to be completed by June according to the Chief Green Mobility Officer of Gentari, Shah Yang Razalli. This is definitely a positive development for the fledging local EV industry but more so for local EV users who currently have to install multiple apps in order to ensure that they have access to all charging networks.

Gentari is currently aiming to deploy 9,000 public EV chargers by 2026 in Malaysia as well as in India. In the long run, it is also looking to capture around 10% market share or around 25,000 charging points through Asia Pacific by 2030.
