Media officially announced its new M80 5G modem today. As per its official statement, the modem combines support for the mmWave and sub-6GHz bandwidths, all in a single chip.
The M80 5G modem is designed to support ultra-fast transmission speeds on both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA), with a maximum downlink of 7.67Gbps and uplink rate of 3.76Gbps. In addition, MediaTek also says that the M80 offers support for a full range of radio technologies, including 3GPP Release 16 standard, 5G NR (FR1), 5G mmWave (FR2) up to 8CC, and Dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS), among other technologies.
MediaTek’s M80 also integrates several of the Taiwanese chipmaker’s power-saving technologies, including its UltraSave Network Environment Detection and UltraSave OTA Content Awareness features.
As to when the M80 5G modem will be available, MediaTek did not specify. However, it did say it will be sending out samples to several of its customers and operators sometime this year, but again, did not provide an exact date.
