Qualcomm has officially announced its new fast-charging platform, Quick Charge 5. The new fast-charging platform is the semiconductor maker’s fastest solution to date, allowing supported devices to go from zero to 50% battery in just five minutes.
Specifically, Quick Charge 5 can support more than 100W of charging power but is also designed to work alongside Qualcomm’s Battery Saver and Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities technologies. To help extend the lifespan of batteries in supported devices.
Statistically, Quick Charge 5 is 70% more efficient than previous versions of Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology, 10 times more powerful, and up to 10°C cooler. On that note, any and all future Quick Charge 5 charging adapters are backwards compatible with Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4, 4+, and all smartphones running on the parent company’s Snapdragon mobile chipset.
At the time of writing, Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 5 is supported by the company’s Snapdragon 865, 865+ at current, but it will be supported by future premium and top-tier Snapdragon mobile chipsets.
