FCC filings made by Korean electronics giant, Samsung, were recently made public. The filings contained details and diagrams of what looks to be a wearable device.
Digging a little further, it appears that the supposed wearable skews towards the fitness lifestyle if the supposed heart rate monitor is anything to go by. If the diagram is to be believed, then this revelation isn’t much of a surprise. Especially since this wouldn’t be Samsung’s first foray into the fitness wearable market. Case in point, the Galaxy Fit that was launched last year.
Now, as we’ve mentioned time and time again – a brand filing a patent is not a guarantee that a product and its design will ever see the light of day. In the case of major brands like Samsung, filing a patent is merely the means for the entity to secure a copyright for its design and to prevent anyone else from “stealing” their designs.
Sadly, there’s not a whole lot of other details regarding the device, but as pointed out by The Verge, the appearance of the filings was made suspiciously close to Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event on 5 August. Perhaps, we’ll hear more on the product then, along with all the other products Samsung is expected to announce.
