Planet Computers isn’t a name many people would have heard about, but the UK-based company does have a reputation of producing some interesting devices. This year, the company is reaching out to the masses to fund its next project, the Astro Slide.
Much like its predecessors, the Astro Slide is a smartphone that comes with a sliding keyboard built into the base. Of course, what sets the PDA-looking device apart from the crowd is that it supports 5G and the latest WiFi 6 wireless bandwidth.
Specs-wise, the Astro Slide features a 6.53-inch sliding touch display that tilts at an angle when fully extended. Beneath the display sits a full-sized, backlit mechanical keyboard. What is interesting is the chipset beneath the hood; the phone is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000 Soc, making it one of the few devices to officially be running on the Taiwanese semiconductor maker’s high-end chipset.

Other specifications for the Astro Slide include 6GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. For its main camera, the phone sports a single 48MP sensor, though the brand doesn’t specify exactly the brand of the sensor. Around the front, the phone has a 5MP sensor for its selfie camera.
It also seems that the Astro Slide has no shortage of ports and comes with two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Naturally, the phone also comes equipped with a Bluetooth 5.1 module and NFC. Software-wise, the phone runs on the latest Android 10 OS. Lastly, powering up the entire device is a 4000mAh.
The Astro Slide has already surpassed its crowdfunding goals of RM806706, with the current amount sitting in excess of RM2.3 million at the time of writing. If you’re interested in pledging support, you can do so on the official Indiegogo page which we’ll provide in the source link below.
Be advised, though, that Planet Computers is estimating that the earliest shipping date for the product is set for March 2021.
