Ip Man 4 was released in cinemas a week ago to positive reviews. The film currently has a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes (with an average rating of 6.5/10). *Keep in mind that there are only 21 reviews on RT right now. The film also has a whopping 96% audience score on the popular aggregator website. And it looks like the general masses feel the same way as well.
Ip Man 4 is currently smashing it at the Malaysian box office. The Hong Kong film has already raked in RM 20.5 million ($US 4.97 million) in Malaysia in merely 7 days, making it the fastest Chinese-language movie to ever to do so in the country.
It’s unclear exactly how much the film had made up till this point at the global box office, as unlike Hollywood films, the data isn’t always reliable, nor up to date. However, on 22 December, Variety reported the following:
Ip Man 4 dealt knockout blows every day from Friday through Sunday, accumulating some $43 million according to provisional data from local sources. That was roughly 45% of the nationwide box office total.
The film has continued to rake in the moolah in the days since the report.
