ScreenX: Malaysians Can Now Watch Movies in a 270-Degree Panaromic Theatre at GSC 1 Utama

Last December Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) announced their partnership with South Korea’s CJ 4DPLEX, to bring ScreenX, a panoramic, 270-degree screen theatre. After much anticipation, ScreenX is now available to be experienced in GSC 1 Utama. GSC has also previously revealed plans to bring ScreenX to two more, currently undisclosed locations in 2020.

So, what exactly is ScreenX?

In an age of IMAXs and 4DXs, ScreenX is another technology that promises to blow your mind and enhance your cinematic experience even further. Instead of the usual one screen in front of you, this tech — which uses five projectors — will also extend the film all the way to the back of the theatre by projecting the film on the sidewalls (draped in the same fabric as the main screen) too. But you won’t have to keep turning left and right to catch the action. The stuff that goes on at the side is used to show off the surroundings and is only for your peripheral vision.

If you’re wondering if it’s actually as impressive and immersive as it promises to be, I can’t say as I’ve yet to check it out myself. I’m hoping to do so within the next couple of days, so stay tuned for my thoughts.

But if you can’t contain your curiosity and would love to check it out for yourself, now might be the best time to do so as GSC is having a special ScreenX re-run from 5 August to 4 September 2019 to show off their cool new tech at discounted ticket prices (RM 14). The films are:

  • Spider-Man: Far From Home
  • Captain Marvel
  • Godzilla: King of Monsters
  • Annabelle Comes Home
  • Bohemian Rhapsody
