The Hunger Games franchise is easily the best and most popular out of the YA dystopian book-film adaptations. The franchise was very well received in the critics’ circle and grossed around $US 2.9 billion at the global box office. It’s also the franchise that introduced the masses to Jennifer Lawrence and launched her career into the stratosphere. The final film, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2, saw Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and her band of rebels defeat the fascist government that has been oppressing the poor for decades.
Well, if you, like me are a fan of this franchise, then get ready to lift three fingers in the air because we’re going to be getting another Hunger Games movie! More than 10 years after Suzanne Collins first published The Hunger Games (the first of a trilogy), Scholastic has announced that she’s currently penning an untitled Hunger Games prequel novel. The book is set in Panem, 64 years before we meet Katniss Everdeen in the original trilogy. The novel is only set to hit bookshelves on May 19 2020.
However, Chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture group, Joe Drake, revealed that the studio is already developing a film adaptation together with author Suzanne Collins.
“As the proud home of the Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published. We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie.”
On top of that, producer Nina Jacobson also quote-tweeted Scholastic’s announcement with “cat’s out of the bag,” most likely indicating that she will be returning to manage this film adaptation much like she did the original trilogy.

The film is still in early stages of development, so there is no casting news as of yet. Don’t expect any of the film’s original cast to return to the fold, though, as the film will be set years and years before Katniss and her peers were even born. There is currently no director attached to this project.
