Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) earlier today has announced the success of its pilot test for the National Fiberization and Connectivity (NFCP) in Jasin, Melaka. The announcement was made in an official ceremony that was attended by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Gobind Singh Deo.

Tests for this pilot project started all the way back in September last year and the announcement today is not exactly surprising as we have seen the proof in the form of the speed test by Jasin Post Office last month.

Pejabat Pos Jasin is powered up to 900 Mbps! Kudos to @Tenaga_Nasional for its pilot project delivering broadband using its existing infra.

A huge thank you to Minister @GobindSinghDeo, @Ishsal and @SKMM_MCMC for providing the Rakyat with affordable high-speed internet! pic.twitter.com/ULQPvjLnC0

Through the NFCP pilot project, 1100 homes within  Taman Merbau Perdana, Taman Maju, and Felda Kemendor residents are now able to utilize broadband services with speed that reaches 1Gbps. Not only that, TNB has also stated that the pilot project was actually completed ahead of schedule.

As a result of this project, the three aforementioned areas of Jasin are also in a unique spot where they are able to choose from multiple ISPs. Up to eight ISPs are offering their services over in Jasin, including big names like Maxis, Digi and Celcom.

The Minister of Communications and Multimedia has stated that the result of this pilot project will be used in the consideration to possibly carry out this pilot test on a larger scale throughout the country. That said, no timeline has been given as to when this will be carried out but nevertheless, it is a positive sign for the development of the broadband market in Malaysia.
