Popular messaging platform WhatsApp announced a delete function for messages sent in the chat app. Accidental messages sent can be deleted in both individual and group messages – but only within seven minutes of sending them.
The function is not new, but previously only deleted messages on the side of the sender. ‘Delete for everyone’ finally deletes any message sent via the app, and everyone will no longer see it in the chat window.
WhatsApp is not the first app to implement message deleting, Telegram has this function since early 2017. The time frame for the deletion is even longer – 48 hours instead of seven minutes.
There is a caveat for this function to work properly. The app needs to be updated to the latest version, and both parties need to have the updated app before the delete functionality can work. The roll-out for the new app is happening right now, so expect the delete functionality to come to your phone pretty soon.
