We’ve seen the rumors and signs for quite some time but it is finally official: there is new smartphone brand that has set its eyes on our market. The said brand is Coolpad who has has just become the latest smartphone brand from China to enter Malaysia.
While the announcement only took place yesterday, the company has actually laid down the foundation for its Malaysian operations since earlier this year. Given its origin, we are not surprised if you are not familiar with the Shenzhen-based company which is actually listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
China might be its main market but Coolpad has presence in other markets throughout the world including North America, Europe, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam prior to its new operation in Malaysia. The company also often made an appearance at major tech shows such as this year’s Mobile World Congress which it has actually showcased its latest flagship smartphone that is called Cool S1.
Targeted for the younger crowd in the market with emphasis on high performance usages and music, the phone is equipped with a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display and powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821. In collaboration with Harman Kardon, the phone also features Clari-Fi music restoration technology and LiveStage Surround capability in addition to the AKG N18 earphones that come as standard with the Cool S1.
Additionally, the Changer S1 is also equipped with 16-megapixels Sony IMX298 sensor on its rear camera alongside an 8-megapixels front camera and a 4,070mAh battery. However, it is not at the moment if this particular smartphone will make its way to our market.
Nevertheless, we do know that Coolpad will release two models in Malaysia very soon. For starters, the company will first approach the Malaysian market with two models made for entry-level and lower mid-range market called Roar Plus and Sky 3 Pro.
Scheduled to be available in early April, Coolpad Malaysia will reveal more details regarding these new devices once they are ready for release. So, stay tuned.
