After months of waiting, smartphones running on Windows Phone 8.1 operating system can now be updated to its successor, the Windows 10 Mobile. Prior to today, the only way that these devices are able to utilize Windows 10 Mobile is through the Windows 10 Mobile Insider program.
That being said though, the update is limited to a select number of Windows Phone 8.1 devices at the moment which are listed below:
Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435
BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q
MCJ Madosma Q501
Additionally, the update is not available to all devices straight away as its availability depends on several factors including markets and service provider. Hence, don’t be surprised if you not able to download the update into your device despite it being part of the list.
For those who want to upgrade their Windows Phone 8.1 devices right away, they can do so from this Upgrade Advisor app from Microsoft which allows users to check whether the update is available for their devices in the first place. It goes without saying that users need a Wi-Fi connection to update their devices as the size of the files are rather huge.
