While this particular hard drive looks like nothing out of ordinary apart from its size, the Western Digital PiDrive is actually made for Raspberry Pi computers. In fact, the company stated that PiDrive works better on the tiny computer than a standard WD hard drive.
This is not the first time that Western Digital has come out with a specially engineered hard drive for the tiny computer though. Last year, the company has also released a PiDrive but features a bigger storage space at 1TB.
Since it is engineered specifically for the Raspberry Pi, the 314GB PiDrive doesn’t come with the usual SATA connecter. Instead, the 314GB hard drive comes with an integrated USB 3.0 port. At the same time, WD has also made some technical customization to the drive in order to reduce the power consumption that PiDrive has on Raspberry Pi without compromising its maximum USB data transfer rate.
Priced at USD 45.81 (about RM 190), the 314GB PiDrive is available through WDStore which means that you might need to get some additional help in order to get your hands on it since the online store doesn’t ship directly to Malaysia.
