While the latest telco in town – Webe – will only open its door to customers in few months’ time but there already plenty of information already made their way online. Joining its SIM card, Pioneer Plan, Unlimited Plan, and coverage maps, the latest set of leaks comes in the form of speed test results.
According to SoyaCincau’s sources, the average download speed for Webe’s LTE service which riding on 850MHz spectrum is between 4 to 9 Mbps at the moment while the average upload speed is between 8 to 9 Mbps:
While these results might have implied that Webe LTE service is much slower than existing telcos, they are not far off from the results of TMgo – who also running on 850MHz spectrum – speed test that we did in Kedah two years ago:
Hence, should consumers be worried about these results? Well, since the service has yet to be launched for consumers, we believe there is no need to lose any sleep over them.
Generally speaking, it is highly possible that Webe has yet to be fully optimized its network. Furthermore, the leaked speed test results didn’t mention the location of their test servers which do affect the results’ final outcome. That being said, these are likely to be located in Malaysia or nearby neighboring countries since the ping rates are under 100ms.
There is one thing we must say though: if the above speed test results remained the same after Webe’s consumer plans go live, then we will not be surprised that Webe decided to put an affordable price tag to them then.
