If 4K TVs don’t catch your fancy, here’s an 8K TV from Sharp. Although the LV-85001 is technically a TV (it has a TV tuner inside), the Japanese company is marketing it as a professional monitor. As it’s the world’s first 8K display in production, you can expect it to not come cheap; Sharp is asking for 16,000,000 yen for it, which is about RM567,000.
For that kind of money, you’re getting a pretty impressive panel. The LV-85001 has an 85-inch 7680 x 4320 resolution IGZO display, which is about 104 pixels per inch; that’s really sharp for an 85-inch monitor. According to Sharp, the LV-85001 has 100,000:1 contrast ratio and viewing angles of 176 degrees.
While all of these specifications are drool-worthy, 8K contents aren’t exactly easy to find. You’d also need to use all four HDMI 2.0 inputs of the LV-85001 to display 8K content on it. Needless to say, this panel isn’t exactly for average consumers.
The Sharp LV-85001 will be available to business customers from the 31st of October 2015. No word yet if it will ever be sold anywhere else other than Japan.
