Microsoft is now opening registration for users that are interested in their upcoming Skype Translator service which allows Skype users to communicate in voice and video in real-time even when the spoken language is different.
Announced back in May, the Skype Translator feature allows for trans-language conversation by translating both sides of a conversation into the other party’s prefered language; while simultaneuously displaying a transcript of the conversation at the bottom of the screen.
At this point in time, the preview program is only available for Windows 8.1 computers and tablets and will feature a handful of languages that it understands. During the sign-up process, users can let the VoIP giant know of which languages they would like to see, supported platforms for the service and how would they utilise Skype Translator.
With the abundance of websites dedicated to language translation, It will definitely be interesting to see how users put Skype Translator to use. Whether the language translating service will become viable or not is yet to be seen.
