As you might have heard, Huawei has scheduled a press event at Barcelona in conjunction with Mobile World Congress 2014. The Chinese company has teased several new devices for the event and just like what the leak has told us before, one of the new products is indeed the Huawei MediaPad X1.
But that’s not all, as Huawei has also unveiled another tablet called the MediaPad M1. Learn more about both tablets after the jump.
Encased in a full aluminium unibody shell, the new Huawei MediaPad X1 weights around 239g and features a sleek physical profile with a thickness of only 7.18mm. With a graphics resolution of 1920×1200 on its 323ppi IPS display, the MediaPad X1 also boasts an 80% screen-to-body ratio.
In terms of firepower, the MediaPad X1 depends on its HiSilicon Kirin910 1.6GHz quad-core processor which also comes packed with the built-in Mali450 GPU and LTE Cat4 (a.k.a LTE-Advanced) 150Mbps capability. There is also 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with the support for up to additional 32GB through the built-in MicroSD card slot.
Furthermore, the tablet is also powered by a 5000 mAh battery that offers 21 days of standby time with around five full days of continues usage and reverse charging. The MediaPad X1 is also equipped with a 13-megapixels Sony Exmor RS sensor on its rear camera complete with an 28mm F2.2 5-elements lens and hybrid IR flash. On another hand, the tablet’s front-facing camera features a 5-megapixels sensor with 22mm F2.4 4-elements lens.
There is also several feature specially designed for the front camera such as 10-level auto facial enhancement, selfie preview screen, and voice-activated hands-free capture. Am pretty sure quite a number of users will definitely appreciate these set of features. Not to forget, the MediaPad X1 also comes with telephony function and users can answer phone calls directly on the tablet itself just like your normal phones.
Moving on, the other tablet that Huawei announced at Barcelona today – the MediaPad M1 – is also equipped with the same HiSilicon Kirin910 1.6GHz quad-core processor which means the M1 is also capable of supporting LTE Cat4’s data speed of 150Mbps. However, this tablet has lesser RAM at 1GB and is confined to 8GB of internal storage although it still supports microSD card of up to 32GB.
Despite made from aluminium, the MediaPad M1 is heavier than the MediaPad X1 at 329g and is slightly thicker too at 7.9mm. That being said, the tablet does come with a bigger 8-inch display but its resolution and pixel density are much lower than MediaPad X1 at 1280×800 and 188ppi respectively. Furthermore, the MediaPad M1 is equipped with a pair of front-facing stereo speakers…which made it looks like an oversize HTC One, to be honest.
The MediaPad M1 also comes standard with 5-megapixels rear camera and 1-megapixels front camera. Both MediaPad X1 and M1 are equipped with Emotion UI 2.0 – Huawei’s own user interface implementation that runs on top of both tablets’ Android 4.2 operating system.
MediaPad X1 will be made available in China, Russia, Western Europe, the Middle East, Japan and Latin America markets starting from March 2014. As for MediaPad M1, it will be released sometime this quarter in is available in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, China, Japan, Asia Pacific, Australia and Latin America.
No pricing information was announced for either of the tablets* at the time being, so does their availability in Malaysian market. Further information regarding both tablets are available over at consumer.huawei.com.
*UPDATE(24 Feb, 106AM): The pricing for Huawei MediaPad X1 in Europe is EUR 399 (RM 1,807). No info on the M1.
